SALT LAKE CITY-- Utah punter Tom Hackett was named a first-team All-American today by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA)-giving him first-team status on the three teams announced to date that count toward the consensus All-America team (FWAA, AP, Walter Camp).
The other two-American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Sporting News-will be announced on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, and the consensus team will be revealed on Thursday. Hackett was a consensus All-American a year ago.
It is also Hackett's second-straight year as a first-team FWAA, AP and Walter Camp All-American. Last week, he won the Ray Guy Award as the nation's best collegiate punter for the second time.
Hackett is the second Ute to make the FWAA first team twice and the first player in school history to win the honor at the same position. Louie Sakoda was a two-time first-team selection as a punter in 2007 and a kicker in 2008. Utah's only other first-team FWAA punter was Marv Bateman in 1970. Utah has produced 14 total first-team FWAA All-Americans.

The FWAA All-America team is the second-longest continuously-published team in major college football.
Utah leads the nation in net punting (43.67) behind Hackett, whose 47.8 punt average leads the Pac-12 and ranks third in the nation. The three-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection has placed 24 of his 55 punts inside the 20-yard line (43.6%), 11 inside the 10-yard line and two inside the five and leads the Pac-12 in punts of 50+ yards with 20.
