SALT LAKE CITY--
The Utah football team has announced the signing of four players to offers of financial aid for 2016. One has already graduated from high school and the other three will graduate this semester--two from the same high school in Florida. All four will enroll at Utah for the spring term.
Quarterback Tyler Huntley (6-1, 180) and wide receiver Demari Simpkins (5-10, 176) are teammates at Hallandale High School in Miramar, Fla. Also committing to Utah are offensive linemen Scott Peck (6-6, 312) from Spokane Valley, Wash. (Central Valley HS) and Jake Grant (6-4, 279) of Scottsdale, Ariz. (Horizon HS).
Huntley, the 2015 Florida Gatorade Football Player of the Year, went 34-10 as a four-year starter, passing for 9,053 yards and 106 touchdowns in his career. He helped lead Hallandale to the 5A regional finals for the first time in school history this season, when he completed 237-of-387 passes for 3,636 yards and 42 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions.
Simpkins was the recipient of 38 of those completions by Huntley in 2015 for 506 yards and seven touchdowns. He was honorable mention All-Broward County as a junior. The 2015 Florida postseason teams have not yet been announced.
Peck, a 2015 all-state selection and two-time first-team all-Greater Spokane League selection, was rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in Washington by Scout.com. He helped Central Valley reach the state playoffs in 2015 after the team won just three games the year before.
Grant, a year removed from high school, was rated as Arizona's No. 6 overall prospect in 2014 (third among offensive linemen) by the Arizona Republic. He was first-team all-state, all-section and all-division as a junior in 2013, when he had 41 pancake blocks and did not allow a sack in 290 pass attempts.
The midyear junior college transfer signing period begins on Wednesday, Dec. 16 and continues through Jan. 15.
