Utah Football Meets with the Media

The @Utah_Football team learned its bowl fate this afternoon and today was the first media availability leading up the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 19 at 12:30 p.m. PT.
Senior linebacker Gionni Paul
On returning to the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl for the second consecutive year:
"I want to thank the [Royal Purple] Las Vegas Bowl for inviting us back. It's a big honor to be able to go to a bowl game. That means a lot. We're grateful and thankful."
On Utah's approach to the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl:
"We're just a team that puts its head down and grinds. We look forward. We can only control what we do, such as winning, the way we practice and the way we prepare to win this game."
On the matchup with BYU:
"Wow. It took me by surprise, but we're just approaching it as 'next opponent up.' I've never played in the rivalry, but it's big around here and we'll be ready to play."
On what teammates told him about playing BYU:
"They told me that it's a game to remember. We always talk about leaving a legacy of being one of the top teams in Utah history and playing BYU could help us do that."

"I'm excited. We get to go to a bowl game for the second year in a row so it's another opportunity where we get to play one more game. For me, I just want to end my season on a high note and play the best game I can."

"It's going to be a fun game. I'm definitely excited for the matchup. We're going to treat it like any other game and prepare so we're ready to play."
On Utah's history of bowl game success:
"It's about how we prepare. Everyone is really focused. We only have to worry about playing well in one game. Preparation is the key for us."

"It's hard work. [Head Coach Kyle Whittingham] does a great job of giving us the appropriate time off, but at the same time when bowl prep time comes, we're conditioning and working harder than our opponents. Ultimately, that's what it comes down to. We out-prepare anyone that we're playing and we understand the importance of bowl games. Our record shows that we have a great history
