Utah Baseball Closes Out Oregon Series With 5-1 Loss

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team closed out the three-game series with Oregon with a 5-1 loss to the Ducks on Sunday.
The game was tied 1-1 after four innings and Oregon scored solo runs in the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings to go on to the win.
Jayson Rose allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings. He falls to 3-5 with the loss. Brock Duke pitched part of an inning and Nolan Stouder allowed one run on two hits in the ninth inning.
Andre Jackson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Utes.
A leadoff triple led to a quick 1-0 lead for Oregon in the first inning.
The Utes tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning. Dallas Carroll led off the inning with a single and AJ Young doubled down the left field line to send in Carroll.
The Ducks re-took the lead in the fifth after a leadoff walk led to an RBI single with two outs and back-to-back leadoff hits in the sixth gave Oregon a run for a 3-1 lead. The visitors continued to increase their lead in the eighth with a run scoring on a wild pitch while an RBI double in the ninth put Oregon up 5-1.
The Utes put two on in the fifth inning and stranded Kody Davis on third. Utah also had a pair of hits in the seventh inning.
The Utes close out the season with a three-game series at Washington, beginning Friday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m. PT.
