Utah Postgame Quotes
at Fresno State
Sept. 19, 2015
Head Coach Kyle Whittingham
Opening statement:
"There were some good, some bad. We didn't finish the game like we wanted to. We got sloppy at the end, which is unfortunate because we put together a pretty good game plan. Special teams finally came alive and did some good things after a disastrous start, fumbling the opening kickoff. We got two scores, the punt return in the second half as well as recovering the opening kickoff in the second half. There was some give and take there. Offensively, it was okay. We were pretty efficient throwing but we wanted to get more 'chunk' yards but we didn't do that. We want more big plays, more explosives in the throwing game. That's something we have to continue to work on. Other than that, it was a good win. We got the non-conference sweep, 3-0, which is obviously what we desire at this point in the season, but now we have the Pac-12 the rest of the way with Eugene and Autzen Stadium next week. WE have to be ready. We have to play better than we have and prove ourselves."
On the running game:
"We had a few more creases [for Devontae Booker] in the running game tonight, still not enough. There were too many guys hitting him right at the line of scrimmage, but it was improved. We just have to keep working on it. He had plenty of touches, just like we want. We have two things to work on [offensively], be more of a run threat and get more chunk plays in the throwing game. Those are our two biggest issues on offense.
On the return game tonight:
"[Cory Butler-Byrd and Britain Covey] are two talented kids. Britain did a great job on that punt return, he made the first guy miss and then we did a nice job of setting the wall up. Cory Butler-Byrd did that all on his own. He did a great job. That was a great individual effort."
Junior Defensive Tackle Stevie Tu'ikolovatu
On his fumble return for touchdown:
"I just saw where the ball landed and got a lucky bounce into my hands and I didn't hear a whistle so I kept running."
Senior Running Back Devontae Booker
On success in short-yardage situations:
"It seems like I heat up when it's 4th-and-1 or 3rd-and-2. I just go out there and run hard every play to wear the defense down. When I get in a situation like that, I'm just motivated to keep pushing through."
