PARK CITY, Utah - In her first collegiate race, Julie Mohagen finished second in the women's slalom to lead the Utah ski team on the first day of the Utah Invitational. The Utes stand fifth after day one.
Chloe Fausa also earned a top-10 finish in the women's race with a 10th-place run. Teagen Palmer scored points for Utah with her 32nd-place finish. Roni Remme was 11th after the first run but did not finish her second run.
In the men's slalom, Joergen Brath led the Utes in 14th followed by Park City resident Dominic Demschar in 18th. Martin Grasic earned points for Utah in his first career race with a 22nd-place finish. Ty Sprock placed 25th followed by Endre Bjertness in 26th.
Teams battled soft conditions on the course during the day that led to a high number of skiers not finishing.
Denver leads the team standings with 186 points followed by Colorado (149), Westminster College (147) and Montana State (119) with Utah in fifth with 114 points.
The Utah Invitational continues with the men's giant slalom on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Park City Mountain Resort.
