MADISON, Wis. - No. 66 Utah finished its weekend road trip to Wisconsin with a 2-0 record after defeating Wisconsin 4-3 in Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
"This was a solid win capping off a productive weekend in the Midwest," Utah head coach Mat Iandolo said.
"The doubles point was won by Utah, which proved to be the deciding factor.
The Ute duo of Margo Pletcher and Brianna Turley defeated Lauren Chypyha and Kendall Kirsch, 6-2.
Taylor Calton and Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa clinched the doubles point for Utah with a 6-4 win over Lauren Burich and Kelsey Grambeau. Utah's duo of Sarah Richter and Lexi Petrovic did not finish its match against Ekaterina Stepanova and Sydney Rider.
The first singles match finished with Turley beating Kirsch 6-3, 6-0.
Jena Cheng was next to finish with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Grambeau.
With Utah up 3-0, three singles points were won by Wisconsin with Richter dropping a 7-5, 6-4 decision to Stepanova. Pletcher lost to No. 44 Chypyha (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) and Calton lost to Avgerinos (7-6 (2), 5-7, 10-8).
Petrovic clinched the match for Utah by defeating Burich 7-5, 6-2.
The Utes return to Salt Lake City to face Wyoming on Friday, Mar. 4 at 5 p.m. MT in the Eccles Tennis Center.
