SALT LAKE CITY - The No. 59 Utah women's tennis improved to 9-3 this season after a 4-3 victory against Wyoming at the Eccles Tennis Center on Friday.
"We did not get a very good start and that made this a very difficult match," Utah head coach Mat Iandolo said. "My hat goes off to Wyoming, they fought very hard. It was good to escape with a win."
Wyoming jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point.
Utah's Alexia Petrovic defeated Sanne Hoekstra 6-1, 6-2 to tie up the match at 1-1.
After losing another point at No. 2 singles, Utah's Brianna Turley was able to edge Dorottya Jonas 6-3, 6-3 to tie up the match at 2-2.
The Cowgirls took the lead but Utah once again came back to tie the match up after Jena Cheng dropped the first set 0-6 but came back and won the next two sets 6-1, 6-3.
The match came down to Utah's Taylor Calton at the No. 5 position, which went to three sets. Calton won the first set 7-5, but dropped the next set 6-3. She clinched the match for Utah by winning the third set, 6-3.
The Utes start Pac 12 Conference play on Friday, Mar. 11 against Arizona at the Eccles Tennis Center. The match starts at 1:30 p.m. MT.
