SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah ski team travels to the NCAA Championships this week, hosted by Colorado in Steamboat Springs from March 9-12.
Utah is one of eight schools fielding a full team of 12 skiers (three per gender per discipline), joining Alaska Anchorage, Colorado, Dartmouth, Denver, Montana State, New Mexico and Vermont. Of the 12 skiers representing Utah at NCAA's, six skiers have previously earned All-America honors while five are making their first appearance at the championship.
Utah has finished among the top three teams at NCAA's four of the last five seasons. The Utes placed third last season and put together a string of three-straight second-place finishes from 2011-13. The Utes have won 11 national titles (10 NCAA, 1 AIAW) in their history, and the 10 NCAA titles ranks third all-time behind Denver (22) and Colorado (19). Utah has 70 individual national champions, which also ranks third all-time.
The NCAA Championships will be held March 9-12 in Steamboat Springs, Colo. The alpine events will run at separate venues, with the men's and women's giant slaloms held March 9 at Steamboat Ski Resort, with the men's and women's slaloms conducted March 11 at Howelsen Hill. Nordic events will be held at Howelsen Hill. The women's five-km and men's 10-km freestyle races will be conducted March 10. The women's 15-kilometer and men's 20-kilometer classical races will conclude the meet on March 12. Schedule is subject to change due to weather.

Women's Nordic
RMISA Women's Nordic MVP
Veronika Mayerhofer, who is the defending NCAA champion in the 5-km freestyle, also finished second in the 15-km classic last year in a photo finish. She has two wins this season (both in the last two races) and nine podium finishes. The two-time All-American has never finished lower than fourth in her 22-race career.
Sloan Storey is a five-time All-American for the Utes and is making her fourth appearance at the NCAA Championships. She has one win and four podium finishes to go with seven top-five finishes this year.
Natalia Müller was an NCAA alternate last year. She has three top-five finishes and nine top-10 finishes this year.
Men's Nordic
Niklas Persson is a four-time All-American making his fourth appearance at NCAA's. He has six podium finishes this season and nine top-five finishes.
Kevin Bolger, making his third NCAA appearance, has had his most consistent season to date, finishing in the top 10 in every race with five top-five finishes.
Nick Hendrickson, a former member of the U.S. Nordic Combined team (2009-14), makes his first NCAA appearance after serving as an alternate last season. He has one win and five podium finishes this year.
Women's Alpine
The women's alpine squad features veteran
Chloe Fausa and newcomers
Julie Mohagen and
Roni Remme. Fausa is a two-time All-American in the giant slalom and is making her third career appearance at the NCAA Championships. She has six career wins, including two victories this season. Mohagen has three wins and six podium finishes this year and has been ranked has high as 64th in the world in the FIS slalom points this season. Remme has two podium finishes and seven top 10's and has been ranked as high as 80th in the world in the slalom in the FIS points this year.
Men's Alpine
The men's alpine team returns two All-Americans in
Endre Bjertness and
Joergen Brath and will be joined by
Dominic Demschar. Bjertness has two giant slalom wins this season and five top-five finishes. He earned All-America honors in the giant slalom last year and is making his second NCAA appearance. Brath, a 2014 All-American in the giant slalom making his third NCAA appearance, has six top-10 finishes this year. Demschar, who is making his first career NCAA appearance after serving as an alternate last year, has five top-10 finishes along with a podium finish this year.
