Utes open season at UVA Invite
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Utah women's tennis had a strong showing in the first day of competition at the UVA Fall Invitational on Friday.

The Utes competed against schools from around the country, including George Washington, Marshall, Maryland, Michigan, Old Dominion, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and host Virginia.

Margo Pletcher and Brianna Turley recorded a first-round win over Hannah Templeton and Ali Mills of South Carolina, 8-0. They soon followed with another victory over Ingrid Vojcinakova and Adriana Rajkovic of Old Dominion, 8-2.

After a first-round loss, Victoria Robertson and Alexia Petrovic came back to defeat Maddie Silver and Nikki Novackova of Marshall, 8-4.

Jena Cheng and Taylor Calton also came back from a first-round loss to defeat Alex Najarian and Chiara Lammer of Michigan, 8-6.

In singles play, Utes tallied an additional pair of first-round wins. Taylor Calton defeated Natalya Malenko of Old Dominion, 6-2, 6-2. Cheng defeated Meghan Kelley of Virginia in a tough three-set battle, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

The Utes will continue singles play Saturday morning and doubles play on Sunday.
