Bolger Wins Second Race of the Season at Montana State Invitational, Alpine Concludes Utah Invite With Third

BOZEMAN, Mont. and HUNTSVILLE, Utah – Utah Nordic skier Kevin Bolger won his second race of the season with a victory in the 10-km freestyle at the Montana State Invitational on Saturday, while the alpine team closed out the Utah Invitational with the men's and women's slalom races, finishing third overall. The Utes stand third at the Montana State Invite.

It was Bolger's second-straight race win after also winning last week's sprint classic at the Utah Invite. The Utes had three skiers in the top 10 as Martin Bergström placed seventh and Martin Mikkelsen was 10^th, their best career collegiate finishes after both struggled with illness last weekend. Oscar Ivars placed 14^th while Jacob Engström was 22^nd.

For the women, Merete Myrseth, also making her collegiate debut after illness last weekend, placed fourth with Guro Jordheim earning her second top five finish of the year with a fifth-place run. Natalia Müeller finished 15^th as Utah's third scorer while Leah Lange was 18^th. Anna-Lena Heynen finished 36th with Josefin Nilsson 42nd.

Utah stands third at the MSU Invite with 448.5 points, trailing Colorado (504) and Denver (452). Montana State stands fourth (374.5) with New Mexico fifth (334).

In alpine, Julie Mohagen was Utah's top skier on a day where the Utes struggled. Mohagen finished eighth in the women's slalom for her second top-10 finish of the year. Chloe Fausa placed 16th while Abby Ghent was 25th with Lauren Samuels 29^th. Roni Remme and Sabine Krautgasser did not finish.

In men's slalom, Joergen Brath earned his first top-10 finish of the year with a 10^th-place run. Endre Bjertness placed 14^th with Sasha Zaitsoff 21^st and Ty Sprock 22^nd. Martin Grasic and Sam Dupratt did not finish.

The Utes finished third overall at the Utah Invitational with 554 points behind meet winner Colorado (610) and Denver (601). New Mexico finished fourth (489) with Montana State fifth (450).

Action continues in both alpine and Nordic on Sunday, Jan. 14. The Utes hosts RMISA slalom qualifier races, which does not count towards any team scoring, but are used as an extra opportunity for skiers to earn qualification points for the NCAA Championships at the end of the season.
