SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's swimming and diving team will host No. 1 Cal this Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. in the Ute Natatorium.
"We are very excited to go up against No. 1 Cal on Saturday," said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra. "It is obviously a huge challenge to go up against a roster full of Olympians and National Team selections but we are looking forward to the challenge of competing against the best of the best.
I felt great about how we looked in the relay exhibition against BYU so now we need to translate that over to a dual meet format with longer events."
UTAH NOTES
The Utes competed in an exhibition match against Brigham Young University last month. Both teams competed in a number of different relay competitions, with Utah coming on top, winning 13 out of the 15 events.
The final victories of the night occurred in the 400 IM relay, with Dillard, Phillips, McArthur and Avery capturing it for the men.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Cal returns to the pool in search of continued success as well as continued improvement under head coach David Durden. The Bears have placed in the top two at the NCAA Championships in each of the last eight seasons, a stretch that includes three national titles.
In 10 seasons under Durden's direction, Cal owns 38 NCAA individual or relay championships. In the quest to add to those numbers, Cal returns 14 members of the swimming team it took to NCAAs in 2016-17 as well as now-sophomore diverConnor Callahan, who made his NCAAs debut as a freshman last season.
UP NEXT
The Utes will host No. 3 Stanford on Oct. 20, with the meet set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Ute Natatorium.
