Murphy looks to add cross country All-American honors to her achievements.
SALT LAKE CITY – Utah cross country student-athlete Grayson Murphy will compete at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 10:45 a.m. ET (8:45 a.m. MT), hosted by Louisville. It is Murphy's second-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships. An All-American in indoor and outdoor track, she is looking to add cross country All-American to her list of honors.
Murphy has finished in the top five in every race she has competed this season. She is coming off a second-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships. Murphy finished fifth at the Pac-12 Championships, second at the Wisconsin Invitational and fourth at the Notre Dame Invitational.
Last season (her first at Utah), Murphy finished 53rd at the NCAA Championships.
Murphy earned first-team All-America honors in the outdoor 3,000 steeplechase in 2017 and earned second team All-America honors in indoor in the 5,000. She holds Utah school records in the outdoor 3,000 steeplechase (9:53.04), outdoor 5,000 (15:58.29) and indoor 5,000 (15:53.24). She also ranks fourth all-time at Utah in the outdoor 10,000 (34:06.69) and fifth in the indoor 3,000 (9:29.71)
Murphy transferred to Utah from Santa Clara. A Salt Lake City native who attended West High School, she originally began her collegiate career as a soccer player at Sweet Briar College in 2013.
Murphy is a civil engineering major with a 3.908 grade point average. She has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in both track and cross country.
