Utes Cap Strong Showing at Art Adamson

O'Haimhirgin wins 100 free

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Utah Swimming and Diving capped three productive days at the Art Adamson Invitational with more outstanding performances this evening.

When the final scores were tabulated, the Ute men had earned a second-place finish while the women's team placed sixth.

Liam O'Haimhirgin capped an outstanding weekend by winning the 100 free. He actually swam faster in the prelims (43.27), to record the second-best mark in Utah history. It also qualified as a NCAA "B" cut time, along with Felix Chiun's fourth-place finish (44.29).

For the women, Dorien Butter swam a 50.04 in the prelims to reach the final and placed eighth overall.

Daniel McArthur also exceled in the prelims of the 200 back with a time of 1:45.42 to qualify for the evening's finals. Austin Phillips then swam a 1:45.85 to take fifth overall for the Utes. Both marks were NCAA "B" cut times.

Earlier in the day, Paul Ungur swam a 1:46.66, the ninth-fastest mark for the Utes, while Ethan Dillard hit the wall in 1:46.75. Both qualified for the evening final but made way for Phillips' strong finish. For the women, Sarah Lott notched the fifth-fastest time in Utah history with a 1:59.69 in the prelims.

In the longest event of the day, the 1650 free, Sara McClendon finished fifth (16:23.15), which was the second-fastest time in Utah history. For the men, Brody Lewis placed third (15:27.60) which was good for 10th all-time. Peter Kotson and Matteo Sogne finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

A pair of divers also turned in record-setting performances on the platform as Nicole Ford went sixth for the women (229.50, 6th all-time) and Jenner Pennock placed 10th for the men (251.60, 8th all-time).

In the 200 fly, Ben Scott finished third overall with a time of 1:45.10 while Chris Taber (1:47.20) and Cole Avery (1:47.31) also accomplished NCAA "B" cut marks during the prelims. Taber and Avery now rank seventh and eighth all-time at Utah in this particular event.

Jordan Anderson paced the women with a NCAA "B" cut time of 1:58.51, finishing 12th overall.

In the 200 breast, Jack Burton swam a 1:56.81 to finish fifth while Genevieve Robertson accomplished it in 2:11.26 to finish 11th for the women. Both times qualified as NCAA "B" cuts

In the last event of the evening, the men's 400 medley relay placed second (Ungur, O'Haimhirgin, Chiun, Phillips), while the women finished ninth (Lott, Butter, Claire Jackson, Gillian St. John).

This brings the 2017 calendar to a close for both swimming teams. However, the diving squads will be in action Dec. 1-2 at Ute Natatorium for the Utah Diving Invitational.
