LIHU'E, Hawaii - The Utah men's golf team will open the 2017 spring schedule at the John A. Burns Collegiate, which will take place Wednesday, Feb. 15 through Friday, Feb. 17, at Wailua Golf Course in Lihu'e, Kaua'i.
Joining Utah at the event will be tournament host Hawaii, along with Arizona, Brigham Young, California, Grand Canyon, Hawaii-Hilo, Kennesaw State, New Mexico, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Santa Clara, Texas A&M, UNLV, UTEP, Virginia, Washington and Washington State.
The Wailua Golf Course will play at par 72 and 6,991 yards for the event, which will feature 54 holes over three days. Teams will play 18 holes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Each day will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. HST (11:30 a.m. MST).
The Utes are coming off one of its most successful fall seasons of late, having registered a pair of second-place finishes and one third-place finish in five fall events. Utah posted back-to-back top-three finishes for the first time since 2009-10, finishing in second-place at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate and a third-place finish at the Mark Simpson Invitational. Utah opened the month of October with a second-place finish at it home event, the OGIO Invitational, which gave Utah three top finishes through its first three events of the season.
Freshman Mitchell Show recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in the fall, posting a fourth-place finish at the Mark Simpson Invitational and then tying for seventh-place at the OGIO Utah Invitational. Schow carded Utah's lowest three-round score of 209, which he tallied at the Mark Simpson Invitational. He posted scores of 72, 69 and 68, respectively, to finish the tournament at 7-under par.
Sophomore
Kyler Dunkle also mangaged to come away with a pair of top-10 finishes in the fall, taking ninth-place at the Mark Simpson Invitational and then taking 10th-place at the OGIO Utah Invitational. Dunkle also managed to record Utah's low round of the fall, posting a 5-under par (67) in a pair of different events. His first 67 came in the first round of the Mark Simpson Invitational, while his second 67 was carded in the first round of the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate.
Dunkle led all players with a 71.9 strokes-per-round average in the fall, while both Schow and senior
Gentry Hicks posted averages of 72.4 strokes-per-round.
