FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Utah women's swimming remains in seventh place after the second day of the 2017 Pac-12 Championships. Three sophomores,
Jordan Anderson,
Darby Wayner and
Julienne Tadena all competed in finals this evening for the Utes.
Anderson placed fourth in the "C" final of the 500 free, 20th overall. The sophomore set a new PR in 4:46.98, almost two seconds ahead of her previous mark, the fourth-fastest time in Utah history.
Wayner and Tadena reached the "C" final of the 200 IM after not placing any competitors in the event last season. Wayner finished 20th overall after swimming a 2:01.26 in the prelims while Tadena finished 24th with a season-best time of 2:03.94 earlier in the day.
Wayner's time was a new PR by almost two seconds and earned her the fourth-fastest time in program history. She also swam the fastest 200 IM by a Ute in three years.
The final event of the evening was the 200 free relay and Utah's grouping of
Dorien Butter,
Gillian St. John,
Jenna Marsh and Tadena turned in a time of 1.31.66 to finish eighth. It was its fastest time of the season and an improvement from last year's quartet that also consisted of Butter, St. John and Marsh.
Butter was also Utah's top finisher in the 50 free. Her time of 23.09 was a personal best and four-hundredths of a second from earning a spot among the top 10 all-time in program history.
On the boards,
Josiah Purss finished ninth in the three-meter event, narrowly missing out on the finals. It was a third top-10 finish in the three-meter for the senior at the Pac-12 Championships.
In the women's one-meter,
Amanda Casillas earned a third-straight top-10 finish in the event, placing ninth with a score of 257.60. However, like Purss, she was unfortunate in missing the finals.
The Pac-12 Championships will continue tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. PT with the prelims of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. The finals of those events will get underway at 6 p.m. along with the 400 medley relay.
In diving, the women's three-meter prelims will start at 12:15 p.m. PT with the finals during the evening session. The men's platform prelims get underway at 3:15 p.m., followed immediately by the finals.
