FEDERAL Way, Wash. - A new school standard was set and a handful of Utes made their marks on the Utah record books during the third night of the Pac-12 Women's Swimming Championships.
Jordan Anderson won the "C" final of the 400 IM but the real story was her time of 4:12.02 that set a new school record, one she previously held.
Freshman
Cassidy Stein swam a 4:15.25 in prelims and would qualify for the "B" finals, finishing 15th overall. Her time was a four full seconds faster than her previous best and is the second-fastest time in Utah history.
In the same event,
Christina Pick, also competing in her first Pac-12 Championships, recorded the sixth-fastest time with a 4:19.36 in the "C" final.
Isabella Kearns' 4:18.56 was a season-best mark.
The Utes also impressed in the 100 breast with
Genevieve Robertson swimming a PR time of 1:01.13 to place 12th overall. The sophomore owns the third-fastest time in Utah history. Senior
Stina Colleou swam a 1:01.41 in the prelims to also qualify for the "B" final and finished 16th overall.
Freshman
McKenna Gassaway competed in the "C" final and with a new PR of 1:02.33 moved up to sixth all-time at Utah in the event
Over on the boards,
Josiah Purss finished seventh in the platform with a score of 300.90. It was his third top-10 finish in the event at the Pac-12 Championships. Meanwhile,
Amanda Casillas had her best finish in the three-meter, placing 11th with a score of 268.50
Back in the pool,
Dorien Butter achieved a new PR in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.96 during the prelims, good for fifth place all-time. She qualified for the "C" final along with
Sarah Lott, who moved up to seventh all-time with a PR mark of 1:48.09.
Lott also impressed in the 100 back, winning the "C" final in 54.27 and moving up to third in the Utah record books.
Darby Wayner also reached the "C" final of the 100 fly after swimming 54.72 in the prelims.
In the final event of the evening, Lott, Colleou, Wayner and Butter placed seventh in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:40.84, a season-best mark for the grouping
The final day of the Pac-12 Championships will begin at 11 a.m. PT with the prelims of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly. The finals of those events will get underway at 6 p.m. along with the 1650 free and 400 free relay
In diving, the women's platform prelims will start at 12:30 p.m. PT with the finals during the evening session's swim break.
