Logan Diekmann recently competed at the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships, held locally at Soldier Hollow Resort. He finished 23rd in the men's sprint qualifier and 27th overall following the sprint heats. Diekmann was 53rd overall in the skiathlon.
Members of the alpine teams recently competed in a series of Nor-Am Cup races in Colorado with several athletes coming away with top 10 finishes against significant competition.
Dominic Demschar placed third in one of two giant slalom races and was sixth in the second race.
Sam Dupratt placed fourth in the second giant slalom race.
Martin Grasic placed seventh in the first GS race.
Roni Remme was eighth in the second giant slalom and 10th in the first. She was also eighth in downhill training.
Dupratt was recently selected as the Student-Athlete of the Week by the Support Services staff.
Former Ute Mark Engel, a member of the U.S. Ski Team, is one of 23 athletes who will compete at the 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Mortiz, Switzerland, from Feb. 7-19. It is his first World Championship. Engel's best World Cup finish is 24th in the slalom at Adelboden earlier this year. He recently won a Nor-Am Cup slalom race at Vail. Engel is currently ranked 50th in the world in the FIS points in the slalom.
Also qualifying for Worlds was Demschar for Australia, who will not attend due to his Utah commitments.
