Fresno, Calif.-- University of Utah women's tennis took a tough loss in their first dual-match of the season at Fresno State.
Junior
Alexia Petrovic and Freshman
Whitney Turley each picked up a singles victory on the day. Petrovic came back from a first-set loss to defeat Emma Wilson, 2-6, 7-6 (3-0), 10-5. Turley defeated Olivia Noble in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The Utes took two difficult losses on the doubles side. Margo Pletcher and Brianna Turley defeated Katerina Stloukalova and Georgia Lawson, 7-6 (5-0). Petrovic and Turley fell to Emma Wilson and Galina Bykova, 7-6 (4-0) while
Taylor Calton and
Jena Cheng fell to Olivia Noble and Ndindi Ndunda, 6-2.
"(It's) a bit disappointing, but (there's) a lot to be learned from this and we will be a better team for the experience of playing in a difficult environment," said Head Coach
Mat Iandolo.
The Utes will face New Mexico in their first home matches of the year on Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. They will then face Wisconsin on Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. Both matches will be held at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.Â
