SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team hits the road this week to play its first midweek game of the season against Nevada on Wednesday, March 15, and continues on to Washington to open Pac-12 play on March 17.
First pitch at Nevada is at 1:00 p.m. PT on Wednesday. Video, audio and live stats will be available. (Video: http://www.themw.com/page/watch-live).
The Washington series begins on Friday, March 17, at 7:00 p.m. PT, continuing on Saturday, March 18, at 2:00 p.m. PT. The series concludes on Sunday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. PT. Friday and Sunday's games will be televised on the Pac-12 Network with a video stream available on Saturday.
Utah is ranked 21st in the latest RPI. The Utes are receiving votes in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.
Utah is second in the conference with a .307 batting average and a .428 slugging percentage. The Utes are also second in the league in runs scored (92, tied), RBI (82, tied) and on-base percentage (.402). Utah is third in the Pac-12 in doubles (30) and hits (141).
The Utes have allowed just two home runs, which is second-fewest in the league. Utah's 44 runs allowed is the third-fewest in the league. The Utes are tied for second in the conference with four pickoffs.
Dallas Carroll leads the Pac-12 and is tied for 11th in the NCAA in batting average (.462) and is tied for 14th in the country in hits per game (1.85). Carroll is the third-toughest player in the league to strike out (one strikeout every 17.3 at-bats).
