HONOLULU- The Utah beach volleyball team closed out competition in Honolulu, falling to Nebraska, No. 5-ranked Hawaii, and No. 7-ranked Arizona at the Outrigger Hawaii Invitational.
Utah opened the second day of competition against Nebraska and fell 5-0 to the Cornhuskers.
Nebraska took the first point in the No. 5 position after sophomores
Berkeley Oblad and
Emily Twohig dropped sets to Brooke Smith and Tiani Reeves. The Utes fell 21-10, 21-15.
Nebraska took the next two points at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to seal the match. Utah's No. 2 duo of junior
Carly Trueman and
Bailey Choy fell 21-19, 21-13, to Olivia Boender and Annika Albrecht. Freshman
Torre Glasker and junior
Eliza Katoa fell in two sets, 21-13, 21-17, against Nebraska's No. 3 pairing, Kelly Hunter and Lauren Stivrins.
The Cornhuskers would complete the sweep over Utah, taking the matches in the No. 1 and No. 4 positions. Utah's top duo of junior

Dani Barton fell to Justine Wong-Orantes and Andie Malloy in two sets, 21-19, 21-11. As the No. 4 pairing, junior
Tawnee Luafalemana and freshman
Brianna Doehrmann were the only duo to go three sets, but fell short to Mikaela Foecke and Kenzie Maloney. The Utes took the first set 21-16, but dropped the next two sets, 21-18, 16-14.
Utah continued tournament play against No. 5-ranked Hawaii, where the Utes would fall 5-0.
Hawaii locked in three points for the dual early, winning matches in two sets at the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 2 positions. Luafalemana and Doehrmann fell to Carly Kan and Ari Homayun in straight sets, 21-10, 21-10. As Utah's No. 5 duo, freshman
Lauren Sproule and Oblad fell 21-13, 21-9, to Norene Iosia and Hannah Zalopany. Teaming up at the No. 2 position, Choy and Katoa dropped sets, 21-12, 22-20, to Hawaii's Nikki Taylor and Ka'iwi Schucht.
The Utes competing as the first and third duos would battle tough in three sets, but Hawaii grabbed the final two matches in the dual.
Glasker and Trueman took the first set 21-19 in the No. 3 position, but fell 21-13 in the second set and 15-11 in the third set to Laurel Weaver and Emily Maglio. Utah's No. 1 pair of Anae and Barton dropped the first set 21-15, but came back to win the second set, 23-21. In the third set, Mikayla Tucker and Morgan Martin took the match, winning 15-13 in the third set.
Utah faced the No. 7-ranked Arizona Wildcats to close out the Outrigger Hawaii Invitational. The Utes fell 5-0 to the Wildcats.
Luafalemana and Doehrmann fell to Hailey Devlin and Sam Manley at the No. 4 position in two sets, 21-10, 21-17. The Wildcats picked up the win in the No. 5 position when Oblad and Twohig fell 21-18, 21-8, to Brooke Burling and Halli Amaro.
Glasker and Trueman fell to Arizona's No. 3 duo, Mia Mason and Kendra Dahlke in two sets, falling 21-19, 21-16.
The last two matches went to three sets, but the Utes couldn't pull away. Utah's No. 1 pair of Anae and Barton took the first set 21-18, but fell in the second set 21-17. Mckenna Witt and Madison Witt took the third set 15-12 over Anae and Barton. In the No. 2 position, Choy and Katoa dropped the first set 23-21, but forced a third set with a second set victory, 21-18. In the third set, Olivia Macdonald and
Olivia Hallaran won 15-11.
Utah will take on Nebraska Sunday, March 19, before returning to Salt Lake City.
