PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Utah women's track and field team heads to the Stanford Invitational to compete with tough competition in Palo Alto, Calif. Utah will send a group of distance runners to compete at the Cobb Track.
Â
"We are really excited for the weekend," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "We have a lot of kids ready to go. Like everyone, we have a few kids with some nicks and dings and we are trying to keep those under control. We are going to out and run fast and try to win sections and be near the front. We will try to do everything we can to perform as well as we can so that way we can get a better idea of exactly where we are and what we need to do to move forward."
Â
Highlighting the distance runners at the Stanford Invitational will be junior
Grayson Murphy. Murphy is coming off an outstanding indoor campaign, earning second team All-American honors by finishing in 15
th place in the 5,000.Â
Â
Along with the group of Utes competing at the Stanford Invitational, the Utah track and field team will also be competing at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and Utah Valley Invitational. Freshman
Poppy Tank will be among other Utes to compete in the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. Tank is coming off an event victory in the 3,000, while setting a new meet record in the event, at the UC Riverside Invitational.
Â
"We will put a full-scale group out there. We will be competing at three venues. The Stanford Invitational with four or five gals, and another seven or eight gals will be at San Francisco State. All these girls that are going to San Francisco State is kind of a backup meet because Stanford can't take everyone that wants to race in the Bay Area that weekend. We will also have a couple gals running close to home here at UVU," Kepler stated.
