SALT LAKE CITY – Junior
Grayson Murphy heads to College Station, Texas, where she will represent the Utah track and field team at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Hosted by Texas A&M University, the national meet will be held Friday and Saturday, March 10-11. Â
Â
"This weekend is a well-deserved chance to compete against the best in the country. We are super excited for Grayson to have this happen," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "Her teammates have been incredibly supportive of her and vice versa. I think everyone is extremely excited for her and looks forward to having one of their own represent them in the best way possible."
Â
Murphy will compete on Friday in the 5000-meter run and is scheduled to begin the race at 7 p.m. MT. The race will be held at the Gilliam Indoor Facility.
Â
"Grayson will be one of 16 competitors going for a national title. It should be a great race. She has had this kind of experience racing at the national cross country meet in terms of racing at the highest level. I know she is excited and we have talked about just keeping things the same and don't change anything. She needs to keep the emotions in check and not worry too much about the different aspects of everything and just do what she has done all year," Kepler said.
Â
"Obviously, Grayson's last two outings in the 5K have been very, very special not only on a national scene but for our school program. She broke school records both times out and the amount of improvement she has had is just incredible," Kepler said. "We are going to push her and try to set her up to do that again."
