The Utes travel to Bozeman, Mont.
SALT LAKE CITY –The #22 Utah cross country team is set to compete at the Montana State Invite this Saturday, Sept. 16. The race will be held at the Bridger Creek Golf Course in Bozeman, Mont., and is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m. MDT.
The Utes enter the week ranked 22nd in the national poll and fifth in the Mountain Region by the USTFCCA.
"It's a great meet that Coach Kennedy and his staff, they do a great job of hosting the meet on their golf course up there," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "It's a great venue, it rolls a little bit the first mile and then the last 2 miles are as flat as a pancake."
Competing against Utah in the three-mile race will be meet host Montana State, Montana, North Dakota, Northern Colorado, and Idaho State.
"We've had some great practices the last couple of weeks and we were really excited about the practice we had on Tuesday but you have to put it together on the course," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "Practice is one thing and getting it done in a meet situation is another. We will run most of our regulars, not everybody, and hold a few out in terms of the kids that we will be counting on as it comes closer to the end of the year."
The Utes have won this event the last two years.
The Utes raced 10 women last week at the Utah State Invite, led by senior Sadie Wassum, who placed 12th overall. Wassum will race again this weekend. This week the Utes will add more of their experienced runners as they begin to prepare for the larger meets ahead, including sophomores Amanda Gehrich and Poppy Tank, who make their first appearances of the year. Tank was all-region in cross country last year while Gehrich competed at NCAA's in cross country last year and ranks in the top 10 all-time at Utah in both the indoor mile and outdoor 1,500 in track. Senior Jessica Sams returns to cross country after redshirting last season.
