Utah Postgame Notes Utah vs. San Jose State Sept. 16, 2017
Â
Utah is 24-1 in non-conference games since joining the Pac-12 in 2011, including an 18-0 record the last four years.
Â
San Jose State had just two first-half rushing yards, had 14 rushing yards through the third quarter and ended the game with 30 total rushing yards.
Â
Utah scored 24 points off turnovers.
Tyler Huntley threw for 341 yards (30-of-43, 1 INT) with four touchdowns, his second-straight 300-yard game. The last quarterback to throw for back-to-back 300-yard passing games was Brian Johnson in 2008 (vs. BYU and Alabama). Huntley was also Utah's leading rusher with 53 yards on 14 carries.
Â
Darren Carrington had 153 yards receiving (nine catches), his third-straight 100-yard game this year. He is the first Utah player to have three-straight 100-yard receiving games since Dres Anderson in 2013. Carrington had three receiving touchdowns (7, 26, 15 yards) and has four touchdowns this season. It is the second three-touchdown receiving game that a Utah receiver has had since 2006 (Raleon Singleton vs. ASU in 2016, before that Brent Castel vs. UNLV 2006).
Raelon Singleton had his first receiving touchdown of the season (fifth career) on a 13-yard reception. Singleton had 24 receiving yards on two catches.
Samson Nacua made his first career start at receiver and had a career-high 59 yards receiving (seven catches).
Zack Moss was Utah's second-leading rusher with 43 yards on 11 carries. He scored a five-yard touchdown, his second score of the season.
Sunia Tauteoli tied for the team lead with seven tackles, including two TFL and an interception. It was his first pick this year and the second of his career.
Marquise Blair had a career-high eight tackles and led Utah with two pass breakups.
Kylie Fitts had two sacks, three tackles and a forced fumble before leaving the game in the second quarter.
Julian Blackmon made his second interception of the season (second career) in the second quarter.
Matt Gay kicked a 56-yard field goal in the second quarter, the second-longest field goal in school history (the longest is a 59-yard field goal by Marv Bateman in 1971). It is the first time in school history that a kicker has made two 50-yard field goals in a game. It is the longest field goal in the country entering this weekend. Gay went 4-for-4 on the night with makes of 56, 51, 21 and 20 yards.
Boobie Hobbs had a career-high 95 punt return yards (three returns).
Â
Attendance is 45,881, the 46th-straight sellout at Rice-Eccles Stadium since the 2010 season opener. It is the 43nd standing-room only crowd in that streak.
