WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. –
Guro Jordheim and
Martin Bergström finished third to lead the Utah ski team in the women's and men's classic races on Thursday as the Utes stand third overall at the Utah Invitational with two races remaining. Utah placed seven total skiers in the top 10 on Thursday.
Jordheim earned her third-straight podium finish for the Utes in the women's 5-km race. Utah placed all three of its women's skiers in the top seven, with
Mariah Bredal and
Leah Lange each earning their best finishes of the season. Bredal placed sixth while Lange tied for seventh. It was Lange's first top-10 finish in her two-year career at Utah.
Karianne Moe did not race.
Bergström has finished in the top three in four of five races this season with three wins. Utah's Bjørn Riksaasen earned his best career finish with fourth place, his first top-five finish of the year. Logan Diekman picked up his second top-10 finish of the year with an eighth-place run, while Håkon Hjelstuen finished 10
th.
Jacob Engström placed 22
nd for the Utes.
The Utes stand third with 417.5 points behind Denver (476) and Colorado (470). Montana State ranks fourth (410.5) with New Mexico fifth (326).
The Utes conclude the Utah Invitational (which was moved from Utah due to local snow conditions) on Friday with the men's 20-km and women's 15-km freestyle races, beginning at 9:30 a.m. MT. Follow the races here:
