SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah ski team continues this week with the New Mexico Invitational. The alpine teams will compete in slalom races on Saturday, Feb. 3 and Sunday, Feb. 4, at Red River Ski Area while the Nordic teams compete in the 21-km freestyle on Feb. 3 and 5-km classic on Feb. 4. The Nordic races have been moved to Crested Butte, Colo., due to local ski conditions.
In the two meets held this year, Utah finished second at the Montana State Invitational and third at the Utah Invitational.
The Utes have won six races this year, all on the Nordic side. Six wins is second among all teams in the league this year, trailing Colorado's seven wins. On the men's side,
Martin Bergström leads all skiers on the RMISA circuit with three victories. He has four total podiums with two fourth-place finishes and is one of two skiers in men's Nordic who have been in the top five in every race.
Håkon Hjelstuen won his first career race at the Utah Invite in the 20-km freestyle. He has finished in the top five in four races. Hjelstuen is one of six skiers in men's Nordic who has been in the top 10 in every race.
Bjørn Riksaasen and
Logan Diekmann have both been strong this year. Riksaasen's best finish this year is fourth in the 10-km classic at the Utah Invite and he has four top 10 finishes. Diekmann has three top 10 finishes with a best finish of sixth in the sprint freestyle at U.S. Nationals.
Jacob Engström has three finishes in the top 16 this year.
In women's Nordic,
Guro Jordheim has won the last two freestyle races on the circuit and is tied for the most wins in women's Nordic this year. She has four podium finishes this year and five top-five finishes.
Mariah Bredal has four top 10 finishes on the year while
Leah Lange has a pair of top 10 finishes.
Karianne Moe's best finish this year is 14
th.
In women's alpine,
Ann-Kathrin Breuning has been the most consistent skier in her discipline in RMISA, finishing in the top five in every race with one podium finish.
Julie Mohagen has finished in the top 15 in four races with one top-10 finish.
Sabine Krautgasser's best finish this year is 14
th in the slalom at the Montana State Invite.
On the men's alpine side,
Sam Dupratt has one podium finish (second in the giant slalom at Montana State) with two top 10 finishes.
Linus Walch has finished in the top six twice with three finishes in the top 15.
Martin Grasic has one top 10 finish and three top 15 finishes.
Huston Philp's best finish was 11
th in the giant slalom at Montana State.
Ty Sprock has two top 15 finishes on the year.
