BERKELEY, Calif. - Utah Women's Swimming and Diving may have lost at No. 2 Cal this evening, 184.5 to 111.5, but some stalwarts picked up solid wins while a pair of freshmen impressed.
Competing in just the second meet of their collegiate careers,
Audrey Reimer and
Aryanna Fernandes showed a glimpse of their potential.
Reimer was the runner-up in both the 100 and 200 back. Her respective times, 55.14 and 1:59.62, were both top-10 Utah marks. Fernandes matched her with a pair of performances that put her name in the record books. She swam the 200 fly in 2:01.42 (7
th fastest) and 100 fly in 54.76 (10
th fastest).
The divers also had a substantial performance as
Emma Ruchala cracked the top 10 on Utah's one-meter chart with a score of 273.60.
Meanwhile, a pair of seniors were getting their seasons of to solid starts.
Genny Robertson, the owner of the second-fastest time in Utah history, won the 200 breast in 2:15.39. Classmate
Jordan Anderson, the school record holder in the 400 IM, won this evening with a time of 4:21.85
The third captain,
Darby Wayner, took third in the 100 breast (1:03.10) while
Sara McClendon was the runner-up in the 1000 free (10:12.66) and
Kristina Miletic placed second in the 500 free (5:02.79).
The women have their home opener next Friday afternoon against USC at Don Reddish Pool in Ute Natatorium.
