Opening Statement…
"It was a good positive for us tonight. It was good to see us build on last week's victory and continue to get into a rhythm offensively. Overall, it was a great effort by the defense, as well. Special teams contributed. Just like last week, it was overall a good team win. I thought Tyler Huntley played well, completing over 70-percent of his passes. He had the one interception that I know he would like to have back, a couple of touchdowns and he also caught a touchdown pass. He was very good tonight."
"Big challenge coming up next week with the Trojans coming to town. Our backs are against the wall every single week from here on out. We knew that this week. We knew it last week. Nothing new there."
On what it is like to see Tyler Huntley succeeding…
"It is great to see Tyler having success. He works so hard. He is a fierce competitor. He is a true student of the game, always in the film room preparing. It has been great to see the fruits of his labor payoff on game day."Â
On Armand Shyne…
"I mentioned last week after the game, the better you practice the more you will play on Fridays and Saturdays. It was great to see him run. The best run, I thought of the night, was from Mitch Wishnowsky. And just for the record, that is not a called fake punt. When we rugby-punt, and roll out, if the defense does not cover correctly, it is the green light every single time. That was not a matter of gamesmanship, it was Mitch doing what Mitch was supposed to be in that situation."
On the level of confidence the team is playing with right now…
"I think it is confidence and, I don't know if I would use the word relief, because we knew what we were capable all along. We just had to eliminate some bad penalties and miscues. We are a good football team."
On what it was like to be a quarterback again…
"Oh it was great. I love it. I am going to be pushing for a quarterback package in the next couple of weeks."
On the defense tonight…
"We feel like the defense has a good squad. When everyone is doing their job, we just kind of click. When the offense and defense click at the same time, I just feel that we can be a pretty dangerous team in this conference."
#1 QBÂ Tyler Huntley
On it being more fun playing quarterback or being a receiver tonight…
"It was more fun being a quarterback, that's not even a question, but my team asked me to make a play, so it was good to make that play."
ARIZONA QUOTES
Head Coach Kevin Sumlin On his message to the team after the game...
"Everybody has got to take ownership and responsibility. That starts with me. In situations like this, the little things can turn into big things; details, little things like that. The message was basically that everyone needs to look at themselves first and how they can be better, including me and the coaches, then move on. Like earlier in the year, when these situations come up, there's not a lot you can do about this, but you don't want this performance bleeding into the rest of the season. That was the message. We need to fix the things we can, and then continue playing with effort, and put our best people on the field who can give us a chance to win."
On Utah scoring on four of their first five drives...
"The first thing that kept them on the field was, I think in the first series, they completed three third-and-longs. One by penalty, a couple of runs. Those third-and-longs kept them on the field. That kind of set the tone on the first drive. Give Utah credit because they were able to execute the three third-and-long situations. Give Utah credit for how they approached it, and how we didn't. That allowed them to stay on the field for over seven minutes on their first drive. That set the tone for the rest of the game."
On his quarterback situation with Kahlil Tate going out in the first half...
"The situation was that last series Kahlil was in there, I was concerned about him not being able to move at all. Running was out of the question, and even dropping back and handing it off. So, we're always going to start with player safety first. We had an opportunity with Rhett (Rodriguez). We gave him a shot to run the team in the two-minute offense to end the half, and he did move the team, and that earned him the right to start the second half. I thought that in tough situation he operated with poise, he looked comfortable. In a tough situation and in a really tough environment, I thought he handled it very, very well and was mature. We gave him an opportunity because of his maturity, because of where he is. He didn't do anything to take himself out of the game. He operated pretty well with the situation that he was in."
