SALT LAKE CITY– The Utah women's cross country team stays home this weekend to host the Utah Open this Friday Oct. 19. The meet will take place at Sunnyside Park in Salt Lake City with competition slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. MST. This is the first meet Utah will host since 2015. The Utes hosted the Utah Open for three consecutive years from 2013-2015.
"We've got our only home meet of the year and we added it to the schedule late but better late than never," Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "We will be at Sunnyside Park, a place where we have never run a meet before, so it's going to provide some interesting challenges but we have certainly practiced there a lot throughout the season."
Running for the Utes this weekend will be:
Hannah Allred,
Anna Busatto,
Emma Christensen,
Caitlin Faust,
Megan Killian, and
Astrid Lindgren.
Brooke Manson and
Bella Williams will also be competing but running unattached. Williams will be running in her first meet of the season.
"We'll put a group of gals out there who will represent us well and get some more development for themselves. We will get to learn where a few of our unattached kids that are redshirting, you know, we will kind of see where they are at and be able to look at their development a little bit," Kepler said. "For the crew maybe not going to Pac-12's, it's a chance to end their race season, per say, on a good note here at home and so we're excited."
Last weekend, the Utes earned a 10th place finish at the Penn State National Open finishing with a total of 286 team points. Meet host, No. 19-ranked Penn State, captured the event title with a total of 62 team points. No. 14-ranked Michigan State placed second with a total of 87 team points while No. 26-ranked Georgia Tech finished third with a total of 143 team points. Freshman
Scarlet Dale lead the Utes finishing in 20th place with a time of 21:05.1. This is the second time this season that Dale has lead the Utes to the finish line.
