Matt Gay, Jaylon Johnson Win Pac-12 Awards

SAN FRANCISCO –Utah kicker Matt Gay and defensive back Jaylon Johnson were announced today as the Pac-12 defensive and special teams' players of the week.
Gay scored 16 points, making all four field goal attempts—including back-to-back kicks from 48 and 49-yards out—and five of five PATs to lead all scorers in Utah's 40-21 upset of No. 14 Stanford. His other field goals were from 34 and 37 yards. He now leads Pac-12 in field goals per game (1.60) and is tied for first in the league in kick-scoring points per game (7.8).
Johnson became the first Ute in 24 years, and just the third player in school history, to return an interception 100 yards for a touchdown. The pick six, which is the longest interception return in the nation this year, came with Stanford on the Utah 9-yard line and the Utes clinging to a 7-0 lead. Johnson also recorded seven tackles.
Gay, Johnson and the Utes return to action this Friday, Oct. 12 as they take on the Arizona Wildcats in Rice-Eccles Stadium. The game is set for an 8 p.m. MT kick on ESPN.
