SALT LAKE CITY—Manny Bowen, a graduate transfer linebacker from Penn State, has signaled his intention to play for Utah by signing a financial aid agreement with the Utes. Bowen has one season of eligibility remaining and his scholarship will go into effect for the 2019 spring semester.
Â
The 6'2", 231-pound native of Barnegat, N.J., played three seasons for the Nittany Lions from 2015-17, participating in 35 games with 21 starts. Bowen had 134 tackles (12.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks) over the course of his PSU career, including a 68-tackle season in 2016 when his 8.5 tackles for loss (2.0 sacks) tied for second on the team. In nine games as a junior in 2017, he recorded 51 tackles with 3.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks. He played as a true freshman in 2015, earning ECAC FBS Rookie of the Week honors against Army when he made six tackles and recovered a fumble.
Â
Bowen, a 2016 Academic All-Big Ten selection, did not participate in football this fall while completing his undergraduate degree in communications media effects, which he will receive in December.
Â
The early signing period for football begins on Dec. 19, but Bowen could sign a financial aid agreement early since he is a graduate transfer.
