Football Continues Bowl Preparations

The Utah football team continued its bowl game preparations on Friday.Â
Thoughts from head coach Kyle Whittingham:
On Northwestern:
"Extremely tough. They're physical, they're disciplined, they don't make mistakes and they don't beat themselves, and that's the mark of a well-coached football team. That's exactly what they are."
Â
On the bowl win streak:
"There is no secret or magic or schedule or anything like that. I think the real key is the way our players work during the bowl preparation period. We've had a pretty good run in bowl games and each successive group is very prideful, wanting to uphold their end of the bargain and keep the bowl game success alive. It's self perpetuating. Each group that comes through here wants to make sure they uphold that tradition literally hundreds of players in this program have worked so hard for."
Â
On balancing work and fun at a bowl game:
"That's exactly what a bowl is, when it's time to have fun you have fun, and when you work you work. I think the most successful teams are the teams that can separate the two and our teams through the years have done a great job of that. They understand when it's time to meet and practice it's all business, but there is a lot of fun to be had on a bowl trip."
Â
On Mitch Wishnowsky and Matt Gay:
They're great weapons for us. Matt has been incredibly consistent for us over the last two years. I thought he should have been in the conversation for the Lou Groza Award this year, but for whatever reason he was left out. He has scored a ton of points for us over the last couple of years. Mitch has done a great job with field position. Everything you want out of a placekicker and a punter, those two guys provide.
The Utes had a special opportunity today to tour the USS Theodore Roosevelt, a working aircraft carrier.Â
