SEATTLE – The Utah track and field team wrapped up the second and final day of competition at the Husky Classic on Saturday. Eight Utes set new personal records while the 4x400 meter relay team highlighted the day earned a second-place finish in the event.
"It was really a terrific weekend, we had two lifetime bests in the 5,000-meter yesterday and today we added eight more," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "We just had a huge day particularly in those middle distance and distance events."
The Utah 4x400 meter relay team captured a second-place finish with a time of 3:47.03. Competing for the Utes was senior
Grace Englund, senior
Alissa Atisme, freshman
Jackie Martin, and junior
Caitlin Faust.
Moving to the 800-meter run, the Utes were led by Faust, who finished in 13th place with a time of 2:09.69. With this time, Faust set a new personal record topping her previous record by two seconds and moves her into seventh place all-time at Utah in this event. Coming in behind Faust and also recording a new best was sophomore
Sarah Newton. Newton finished in 27th place with a time of 2:12.14, topping her previous record by two seconds and places her ninth all-time at Utah in the event. Englund finished in 34th place with a time of 2:13.17. Sophomore
Melissa Taggart set a new personal record with a time of 2:14.17, topping her previous record by five seconds. Freshman
Whitney Hessler captured 64th place with a time of 2:20.09.
In the mile race, senior
Hannah McInturff led the way for the Utes capturing 44th place with a time of 4:54.07. Senior
Megan Perkins-Killian set a new personal record with a time of 5:00.72 while finishing in 61st place. Also competing for the Utes and setting a new personal record was senior
Dakota Grossman. Grossman finished in 63rd with a time of 5:02.21. This time barley topped her previous record of 5:02.64.
On to the 3,000-meter race, sophomore
Poppy Tank led the Utes finishing in 29th with a time of 9:29.75. Finishing behind Tank was freshman
Bella Williams. Williams finished in 59th place and set a new personal record with a time of 9:43.74. This time tops her previous record by nine seconds. Coming in behind Williams and also setting a new personal record was sophomore
Trina Moreno. Moreno finished in 83rd place with a time of 9:59.08. This time tops her previous record by eight seconds. Freshman
Aubrey Argyle also set a new personal record. Argyle finished in 97th place with a time of 10:10.61.
Freshman
Ruby Jane Mathewson captured 40th place in the 400 with a time of 59.89. She also competed in the 60-meter hurdles for 52nd place with a time of 9.77.
In the 60-meter dash, Atisme and
Raynee Helm Wheelock competed for the Utes. In the preliminaries, Atisme finished in 10th place with a qualifying time of 7.81. Wheelock captured 29th place with a time of 8.04.
In the high jump, junior
Eliza Hansen finished in 20th place with a height of 1.54 meters.
"Overall it was just another very good weekend," Kepler stated. "There was just a lot of good things and improvements which is what we are all about and what we love to see."
The Utes will be back in action in two weeks, Feb. 23-24, at the MPSF Championships back in Seattle. Senior standout
Grayson Murphy will also be returning to the track at the MPSF Championships.
