FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Nathan Makarewicz finished on the podium after a third-place finish in the one-meter dive as the Pac-12 Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off this evening.
The lone diving event saw the senior impress at his first conference meet. He entered this evening's final ranked fourth, but surpassed USC's Dashiell Enos to finish third overall with a score of 348.70
"Nathan had a brilliant finals and absolutely nailed his last dive with the pressure on," head diving coach
Richard Marschner said. "His inward two-and-a-half was definitely the best dive in the entire competition and I could not be happier for him."
Senior
Dorien Butter swam the lead leg of the 800 free relay for the women and teamed with
Sarah Lott,
Ianire Casarin and
Mandy Gebhart to finish with a season-best time of 7:17.12
There were only two relays that took place this evening as
Emma Broome,
Genny Robertson,
Gillian St. John and
Jenna Marsh also finished eighth with a time of 1:40.01 in the 200 medley
The Pac-12 Championships will continue tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. PT with the prelims of the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free. The finals of those events will get underway at 6 p.m. PT along with the 200 free relay.
In diving, the men's three-meter prelims will start at noon with the women's one-meter prelims at 2:15 p.m. PT and finals at 4:45 p.m. PT.
