FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Utah divers had another solid showing during the second evening of the Pac-12 Championships
On the boards,
Nathan Makarewicz and
Jenner Pennock both advanced to tonight's finals of the three meter. Pennock wound up besting his Ute teammate and placing sixth overall (324.60). Makarewicz, after a third-place finish last night in the one meter, ended seventh (313.35).
"It was an amazing day all around for the divers," coach
Richard Marschner said. "Jenner was phenomenal in the finals as he set a personal best in his first Pac-12 meet. He has put in a lot of hard work and I am so happy to see it pay off for him."
In the women's one-meter,
Clare Greenlow placed 13th in her first Pac-12 Championships with a score of 253.50.
"Clare had a great event and was solid throughout," Marschner added. "She showed great poise against a tough field.
Emma Ruchala also had a good dive to take a top-20 finish and score some team points."
The final event of the evening was the 200 free relay and Utah's grouping of
Dorien Butter,
Gillian St. John,
Jenna Marsh and
Claire Jackson turned in a time of 1.30.92 to finish sixth, narrowly missing a school record by two-tenths of a second.
Thursday was a tough one for the Utes in individual swimming events. Senior
Dorien Butter placed 27th in the 50 free with a time of 23.09 and
Darby Wayner also finished 27th, swimming the 200 IM in 2:04.26.
Jordan Anderson was the top Ute in the 500 free placing 35th in 4:52.79.
The Pac-12 Championships will continue tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. PT with the prelims of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. The finals of those events will get underway at 6 p.m. along with the 400 medley relay.
In diving, the women's three-meter prelims will start at 12:15 p.m. PT with the finals during the evening session. The men's platform prelims get underway at 3:15 p.m., followed immediately by the finals.
