Utah Baseball Falls in Extras to Nebraska, 4-2

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Utah baseball team suffered a tough extra-inning loss to Nebraska on Friday evening, 4-2, in Surprise, Ariz.
Utah led twice during the game and the contest entered the 10th inning tied at 2-2. Nebraska had two hits in the top of the extra frame and an error that led to a pair of runs to lift the Huskers to the win.
Utah's Kyle Robeniol had a strong start on the mound, allowing one run and three hits with five strikeouts and four walks over five innings. Josh Tedeschi pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned), five hits and two walks with two strikeouts, earning the loss. Trenton Stoltz pitched the final 2/3 of an inning.
Braden DeBenedictis went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Utes. Oliver Dunn and Matt Richardson each drove in runs.
Both teams struggled with runners left on base, with the Utes leaving eight on and Nebraska stranding 13.
The Utes got on the board quickly, with DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., hitting a single to lead off the inning and Rykker Tom walked with Chandler Anderson hitting a single to load the bases with one out. A fly ball in foul territory off the bat of Dunn allowed Keirsey to score and give Utah a 1-0 lead.
Nebraska came back to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the second after a walk and two hits led to a run.
Utah pulled back ahead in the fourth inning. Erick Migueles was hit by a pitch to lead things off and DeBenedictis singled to put two runners on and lead to an RBI single off the bat of Richardson to put the Utes ahead 2-1.
The Huskers rallied in the seventh for a run to re-tie the game at 2-2. A one-out single and two-out walk led to an RBI single.
Utah got out of the top of the eighth unscathed after Nebraska loaded the bases. Richardson drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the ninth but he was stranded on base, pushing the game to extra innings.
The Utes continue to look for their first win of the season against Ohio State on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 4:00 p.m.
