SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team travels to Northern California this weekend for a three-game series at Santa Clara and concludes with a single game against San Jose State, March 2-5.
The series kicks off on Friday, March 2, at 6:00 p.m. PT., and continues on Saturday, March 3, at 1:00 p.m. PT. Game three is on Sunday, March 4, at 12:00 p.m. PT.
The Utes continue on Monday, March 5, at San Jose State at 1:00 p.m.
Utah continues to look for its first win of the season after dropping games to Ohio State and Nebraska last weekend. Players who had strong performances include
DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., who hit .389 (7-of-18) with three doubles and two RBI,
Wade Gulden, who hit .353 (6-of-17) with three RBI, two doubles and a triple, and
Oliver Dunn, who hit .353 (6-of-17) with four RBI. On the mound,
Kyle Robeniol had a strong start over five innings pitched against Nebraska in game one, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts over five innings pitched.
Utah is tied for fourth in the Pac-12 with 14 doubles. The Utes are sixth in the league in fielding percentage (.968). Freshman pitcher
Brett Brocoff leads the Pac-12 with 17 strikeouts. He is ranked 24th in the NCAA in strikeouts per nine innings (15.83). Senior pitcher
Tanner Thomas is tied for third in the Pac-12 with 15 strikeouts.
Santa Clara enters the week 4-3 on the season. The Broncos recently won two of three games against Wake Forest. Santa Clara plays Nevada on Tuesday before facing the Utes.
San Jose State enters the week 4-4, and won two out of three games in San Francisco against USF and Sacramento State. SJSU plays Cal Poly on Tuesday and a three-game series vs. San Diego State before playing Utah on Monday.
