SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's swim team will host Washington State this weekend in what will be a final tune-up before the Pac-12 Championships. Utah will also celebrate the accomplishments of its senior class before the meet.
The Utes are aiming for a fifth-straight dual meet victory, however, they have dropped three in a row to the Cougars. Both Utah and WSU are coming off Pac-12 wins over Oregon State their last time out.
Last Weekend
Utah beat the Beavers, 143-93 as
Darby Wayner collected a pair of wins for the Utes in the 100 and 200 breast events. The junior from Savannah, Georgia finished with a time of 1:04.90 in the 100 and 2:21.71 in the 200.
Gillian St. John started her afternoon by swimming the third leg of the triumphant 200 medley relay. Then, after finishing second in the 50 free to teammate
Dorien Butter (23.52), she won the 200 IM (2:08.27).
That 200 medley team also consisted of
Emma Broome, Genny Robertson and
Jenna Marsh. Robertson was also fourth in the 200 free and Marsh was fourth in the 100 breast.
Sarah Lott impressed for Utah with a win in the 100 back (55.77) and a runner-up spot in the 200 back.
Ianire Casarin won the 100 free in 52.31 and finished third in the 100 breast. Meanwhile,
Gabby Fagan captured the 200 free (1:54.02) and was fourth in the 100 free.
The two also combined with
Jordan Anderson and
Claire Jackson to win the 400 free relay (3:32.69). Anderson would get a second-place finish in the 200 free and Jackson also went fourth in the 50 free.
Other winners included
Sara McClendon, who captured the 500 free in 5:00.69 and was third in the 200 fly, and
Mandy Gebhart, who was victorious in the 1000 free (10:33.73).
Christina Pick also turned in a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 fly.
Senior Swimmers
The meet will begin at 10 a.m. inside the Ute Natatorium. Utah will honor its senior student-athletes before the meet in its annual celebration. Utes

Looking Ahead
With the Pac-12 Championships right around the corner, teams will be tuning up for the competition. The women's swimming squad and both diving teams begin on February 21
st, while the men will begin a week later on Feb. 28. This year's championships are being held in Federal Way, Washington.
