LOS ANGELES – Behind seven solid innings from pitcher Tanner Thomas, the Utah baseball team shut out USC, 4-0, on Friday evening in Los Angeles.

Thomas allowed two runs and one walk with five strikeouts in the win. Jacob Rebar pitched 1 2/3 innings while Trenton Stoltz closed the game out in the ninth and earned the save for the Utes.

Rykker Tom and Dominic Foscalina each had two hits on the night to lead Utah at the plate. Four different hitters drove in runs – Wade Gulden, Erick Migueles, Chandler Anderson and Foscalina.

Utah took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning as Oliver Dunn singled to lead off the game and Tom hit a double to put runners at the corners. A ground out by Gulden send home the first run before an RBI double off the bat of Anderson gave the Utes their second run of the inning.

The Utes took a 3-0 lead with a run in the sixth after Tom doubled to lead off the inning and scored on Migueles' single to center field.

Foscalina's third home run of the year to lead off the ninth gave Utah a 4-0 lead.

USC had just two hits on the night. The Trojans stranded two runners on base in the second and ninth innings.
