SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah baseball team defeated Utah Valley, 10-6, on Thursday evening behind multiple hits from
DaShawn Keirsey, Jr.,
Chandler Anderson and
Erick Migueles.
Returning to the field after spending the last three weekends on the bench due to injury, Anderson went 4-for-5 at designated hitter with three RBI and three runs scored. Keirsey had three hits on the night with three RBI and a double while Migueles went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.
Rykker Tom and
Davis Delorefice also each scored two runs on the night.
Utah used four pitchers with
Josh Lapiana picking up his second win of the season after throwing 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Riley Pierce allowed three runs on three hits with one strikeout and a walk in the start.
Austin Moore surrendered two runs on four hits over two innings.
Trenton Stoltz earned the save, his fourth of the year, after pitching the final two innings with two strikeouts.
With Utah Valley leading 4-2, Utah tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth with two runs. Migueles doubled with one out and scored on an RBI double from Anderson. Keirsey also hit an RBI single in the inning for the Utes.
Utah broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fifth for an 8-4 lead. The Utes had just two hits in the inning, taking advantage of three walks and a hit batter to set up RBI hits from Anderson and Keirsey.
Although UVU scored two runs in the seventh to cut into Utah's lead, the Utes pulled back ahead with two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth courtesy of an RBI double from Migueles.
Utah returns home on Friday, April 13, beginning a three-game series against UCLA at 6:00 p.m. MT.
