COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah sophomore setter
Bailey Choy and freshman outside hitter
Dani Barton have both been named to the 2018 U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team-Detroit roster, USA Volleyball announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
The 24-member team is comprised of current collegiate players who will train and compete in Detroit from June 22-July 1.
Â
"We are very proud of Bailey and Dani to have been chosen for this USA pipeline program," said Utah head coach
Beth Launiere. "It is a great opportunity to gain high-level experience in the summer, while also competing against other great collegiate players. We know they will represent Utah well."
Â
Choy and Barton are both coming off successful seasons this past fall, which helped lead Utah to a second-straight NCAA Tournament berth and its first appearance in the Sweet 16 since 2008.
Â
Choy tallied a team-best 1,241 assists and ranked seventh in the Pac-12 with 9.47 assists-per-set. She became the first Utah setter to register at least 1,000 kills in a season since 2010, while her 1,241 assists rank 10
th-most all-time in school history and third-most during the rally scoring era. With Choy running the offense, Utah hit .252 as a team on the season, which ranks tied as the third-highest hitting percentage in school history.
Â
Barton tallied 178 kills and a 1.48 kills-per-set average as a freshman for the Utes this past season. She also went on to total 70 blocks and 31 digs this past fall. Barton set new season/career-highs with 15 kills against BYU back on Sept. 14 and 11 total blocks at Hawaii on Sept. 3. In Utah's win over Hawaii, she registered her first-career double-double with 10 kills and the 11 blocks. Barton would go on to earn Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors that next week.
Â
Choy and Barton both join
Berkeley Oblad on USWCT teams this summer. Oblad was named to the
Collegiate National Team Europe Tour earlier this year.
Â
The CNT-Detroit squad, which is part of USA Volleyball's High Performance pipeline and is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team, will train from June 22-26 at the University of Michigan. Afterward, the athletes will be assigned to one of two 12-member teams that will play three exhibition matches against each other at the Cobo Center from June 27, June 28 and June 30.
Â
Athletes were selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held March 2-4 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
