Utes collect nine top-10 finishes over the weekend.
DES MOINES, Iowa, and PROVO, Utah. – The Utah track and field team wrapped up the weekend of competition at day two of both the Drake Relays and BYU Robinson Invitational on Saturday. Junior Caitlin Faust led the Utes capturing a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter event at the Drake Relays.
"It was another successful weekend here at the Drake Relays," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "This is one of the oldest meets in the entire country and I'm just proud that we were able to come out and represent Utah the way we did and our girls did a terrific job."
Faust finished the 800-meter race with a time of 2:09.11. Also competing alongside Faust was sophomore Sarah Newton, who finished in sixth with a time of 2:09.37.
In the distance medley relay, the Utes finished in ninth posting a time of 11:43.99. the distance medley team included seniors Hannah McInturff, Mesa Weidle and Dakota Grossman and sophomore Nicole Griffiths.
"Solid efforts and I thought our last three legs were ran very well," Kepler said of the DMR race. "Mesa Weidle ran her best race the entire season, Nicole Griffiths continues to impress, improve, and become more consistent, and then Dakota Grossman ran another lifetime best split for 1,600-meters so I thought those guys ran really well."
At BYU, juniors Hannah Allred and Jade Mulvey has a good showing in the 5,000-meter event as they placed fifth and seventh respectively. Allred finished with a time of 18:42.69 while Mulvey finished with a time of 19:04.51.
In the mile race, sophomore Melissa Taggart captured 11th place with a time of 5:16.63. Senior Shaylen Crook finished in 20th with a time of 5:28.53. Taggart also ran in the 800-meter race along with freshman Natalie Platil. Taggart placed 13th with a time of 2:17.63 and Platil earned 17th with a time of 2:20.05. With this time Taggart recorded a new personal best.
In the 800-meter open race, Makenzie Clark represented the Utes placing fourth with a time of 2:28.45. Senior Madison Lanford competed in the 400-meter hurdles where she placed 10th in a time of 1:04.26.
The Utah jumpers has a good outing with junior Eliza Hansen leading the way for the Utes. Hansen placed second in the high jump with a height of 5'3.75" (1.62 meters). Sophomore Suzannah Stark captured third with a height of 5'1.75" (1.57 meters) and junior Lauren McCluskey finished in sixth with a height of 5'1.75" (1.57 meters).
Freshman Whitney Hessler competed in the 800 at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif., finishing eighth with a time of 2:12.90.
The Utes will be back in action on Wednesday, May 2, at the Weber State Open and on Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6, at the Sacramento State Open.
