MISSOULA – No. 22 Utah capped off a great weekend in Missoula, Montana by defeating Iowa State in straight sets on Saturday, September 1.

The Utes went 3-0 at the Montana Volleyball Invitational sweeping all three of their opponents.

Against Iowa State, who is receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll, the Utes had a balanced attack with three players having double-digit kills led by senior
Lauga Gauta with 14.
Dani Drews finished with 13 kills and
Kenzie Koerber had 10 kills. Â

The first set was one of runs and Iowa State came out hot early taking a five-point lead. The Utes responded with a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the match at 14-12. After the Cyclones briefly grabbed the lead back, Utah ran off a 6-1 run to go up 21-18. Three straight kills from Drews and then a block from
Phoebe Grace and Drews gave Utah the set.

Iowa State took another lead in the second set and really was in control until late. Utah used its second timeout trailing 17-11, and that's when the Utes started chipping away at the lead. The Cyclones got to 20 leading by three, but Utah closed the set on a 9-1 run to go up 2-0 in the match.

With the third set close, Utah took control with a 5-1 run to go up 15-12. Once the Utes had the momentum, they didn't look back. With the sweep in their sites, Utah won five of the last six points to clinch its third sweep of the weekend.

Utah's defense held Iowa State to a .174 hitting percentage forcing them into 18 errors in the match.

Bailey Choy finished with a double-double having 34 assists and 12 digs.

Next weekend, Utah will travel to Villanova for the Villanova Volleyball Invitational. Beginning on Friday, September 7, the Utes will take on Villanova, Temple and High Point.
