Head Coach Kyle Whittingham
(On the overall game)
"Tough loss obviously, it wasn't the outcome we were hoping for. All losses are hard, we talked about there's no such
thing as moral victories. When you come into Pullman, it's a fairly hostile environment. It's not the biggest crowd, but
they're loud. We got Zack Moss involved like we wanted to. Defense stood up in the second half. We did a lot of positive
things that were negated by things that we've got to be better at as far as penalties. This team's got a lot of character and
a lot of heart, and they'll come back ready to work on Monday. No matter what happens, you've got to pick yourself up and
get ready to play the next week"
(On what the defense did better after the second quarter)
"We started getting a little more pressure and moved to a four-man front. The biggest difference in the second half was
mixing in more four down and a little less three down."
(On why it got tougher for the offense)
"A lot of it was not being able to get out of our own way with the penalties. There was a lot of officiating going on in the
fourth quarter, and we were just on the wrong end of it."
(On penalty on 4th down)
"I never got an explanation. We'll have to look at the film and correct our errors."
(On running the ball)
Right out of the gate that was the game plan, to establish the run. Zack [Moss] ended up carrying the ball thirty times –
that's about as much workload as a back should get. I don't how many times you're able to give it to him and hope he lasts
the season."
(On "shooting selves in the foot")
"They had more penalties than we did, as far as yards. I'm not in any way shape or form pinning this on the officiating.
We've just got to go about or business better."
Quarterback Tyler Huntley
(Impression on the game)
"We had it, we just shot ourselves in the foot. We had a plan of coming out and running the ball, we knew we had to keep it
on the ground. Washington State did a good job with adjustments. Like I said, we shot ourselves in the foot."
Running Back Zack Moss
(Impression on the game – run game)
"We executed very well in the first half. Second half, we got away from what was working. We shot ourselves in the foot,
we need to make plays other than the running game."
(Rhythm with the carries)
"It helped the offense very well in the first half. We got away from it in the second half, and became one dimensional. We
just didn't make plays, other than the run game, and we needed to."
Defensive Back Julian Blackmon
(Adjustments during the game on defensive end)
"We knew they were going to come out with the heavy pass, and they got the better of us this time. For us, it was just
being in better position and understanding that they were running stuff that we saw on film. We just needed to execute,
and we felt like we did a pretty good job at the end of the second quarter and the third quarter."
(On upcoming competition against Stanford)
"We don't want it to be easier, we're ready. We just have to eat this one and move on."
