BOZEMAN, Mont. – Led by podium finishes from
Guro Jordheim and
Maximilian Bie in Nordic, the Utah ski team closed out the Colorado and Montana State Invitationals on Saturday afternoon, winning the CU Invite by over 100 points and finishing second behind Colorado at the MSU Invite by five points.
In alpine, the men competed in the slalom for the CU Invite, which was postponed from last weekend.
Addison Dvoracek tied for seventh to lead the Utes, his fourth top-10 finish of the year.
Joachim Bakken Lien earned his third top-10 finish of the year with a ninth-place run.
Martin Grasic also raced a season-best 12
th after skiing the fastest second run of the day while
Ty Sprock finished 19
th, his third time in the top 20 this year.
Linus Walch placed 23
rd.
Tomas Birkner de Miguel and
Huston Philp did not finish their second runs (Philp stood second after his first run) while
Fredrik Maurstad did not race his second run.
Utah entered the final race of the Colorado Invitational with an 85-point lead and ended up winning by 115 points. The Utes had 663 points, finishing ahead of Denver (548) and Colorado (515.5) in the win.
The Nordic teams closed out the MSU Invite and
Guro Jordheim continued her strong skiing with a second-place finish in the women's 15-km classic. She has finished first or second in all four races this year. The Utes placed four skiers in the top 10 for the second time this season as
Karianne Moe finished sixth,
Mariah Bredal was seventh with
Leah Lange eighth.
In men's Nordic, Maximillian Bie earned his first podium finish of the season with a third-place run.
Ola Jordheim finished in the top five for the fourth-straight race while Logan Diekman earned his third top-five finish of the season.
Six different skiers (three men, three women) in Nordic have earned podium finishes in Utah's four races this season.
Utah jumped from sixth to second throughout the course of the MSU Invitational, and was just edged out by Colorado, 587 to 583. New Mexico finished third (569) followed by Denver (502.5) and Montana State (464) in the top five.
The teams are back in action at the New Mexico Invitational beginning Feb. 1. The Utes have
Noel Keeffe competing this week at the Nordic Junior World Championships in Lahti, Finland, beginning on Monday, Jan. 20.
