Utes Complete First Day of Kentucky Invite

Three Utes pick up singles wins to open competition.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Utah women's tennis team opened day one of competition at the Kentucky Invite on Friday, where the Utes picked up three singles wins and a doubles victory. In Friday's action, the Utes took on tournament host Kentucky in doubles, as well as matched up against DePaul and Kentucky in singles at the Top Seed Tennis Club.
In doubles against Kentucky, the duo of Emily Dush and Anya Lamoreaux paired up together and picked up the sole Utah doubles victory on the day, topping Maialen Morante and Brianna Tulloch with a score of 8-4.
Madeline Lamoreaux and Lindsay Hung were paired up against Kentucky's Carlota Molina Megias and Ana Tkachenko where they fell short, 6-8. Jasmine Rich and Katya Hersh then faced off against Diana Tkachenkp and Carla Girbau, dropping a tough match 1-6.
Moving into singles play, Hung picked up a victory over Alina Kuzmenkova from DePaul in a competitive three-set match. After dropping the first set 3-6, Hung then rallied back to win the next two sets 7-5, 6-4, to complete the win.
Madison McKay was also victorious, as she knocked off Kentucky's Brianna Tulloch in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (4) to mark McKay's first collegiate win in singles play. McKay dropped the second set and in a tight third set that would come down to the wire, McKay came through in the end to secure the win. The final singles win of the day came from Anya Lamoreaux, as she was able to beat out DePaul's Layo Adelakun in a dominant victory with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Rich, Lamoreaux, and Hersh fell short on the first day of singles action against opponents from DePaul. Lamoreaux and Hersh both fell in narrow three set matches.
Play at the Kentucky Invite will continue Saturday morning for the Utes with doubles matches beginning at 9 a.m. ET. Utah will match up in doubles against Penn State tomorrow morning and then play against Miami in singles later in the day.
