LOS ANGELES - Utah competed at the Trojan Diving Invitational today with
Tony Chen impressing for the Utes.
"Tony did a nice job today and he is starting to put his dives down really well," said head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "He is on the verge of having a truly great meet and is trending in the right direction. Emma and Lizzy did well to make the finals in a large women's field. We are still making some adjustments and getting used to competing but I am happy with where we even though the results can certainly improve."
The sophomore placed second in the 3m championships, finishing with a score of 705.00. He was second to 2018 Pac-12 Champion Henry Fusaro and actually had the top score during the preliminary dives.
Â
Chen was the only male diver to compete today, as
Luke McDivitt will focus on his platform event instead of competing in the 3m.
Emma Ruchala was the top scorer on the women's side, finishing eleventh with a final of 234.60 in the 1m championships.
Lizzy DeCecco was not far behind, finishing fifteenth with a final of 225.80.
Utah will compete again tomorrow with events set to start at 11 a.m. PT.
