SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah ski team has announced the signings of Nordic skiers Novie McCabe and Sydney Palmer-Leger to National Letters of Intent. McCabe and Palmer-Leger will join the Utes for the 2021 season.
"Novie and Sydney are two of the top juniors in the world with outstanding domestic and international results," head Nordic coach
Miles Havlick said. "They both exhibit excellence on skis and in the classroom and we are ecstatic for them to continue their careers as Utes!"
McCabe, from Winthrop, Wash., is currently on the U.S. Development Team. Palmer-Leger is from Park City, Utah, and has been skiing with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation. Both women competed at the 2019 World Junior Championships and the 2018 U18 Nordic Nations Championships. They have had strong juniors results at the U.S. Cross Country Championships and won titles at the U.S. Junior National Championships.

Novie McCabe
Hometown: Winthrop, Wash.

th in the 15-km classic and 29
th in the 5-km skate at the 2019 World Junior Championships in Lahti, Finland, as well competing on the team that finished fourth in the 4x3.3-km relay
- Finished second in the junior women's 10-km classic (13
th overall) and the 7.5-km skate at the 2019 U.S. Cross Country Championships
- Placed second in the 10-km freestyle in 2019 Alpen Cup in Le Brassus, Switzerland
- Finished third among junior women and 15
th overall in the 10-km freestyle at the 2018 U.S. Cross Country Championships
- Finished fifth in the 5-km classic and ninth in the sprint freestyle at the 2018 U18 Nordic Nations Championships in Vuokatti, Finland
- Won the distance freestyle and freestyle sprint and second in the 5-km classic in U18 and on the winning 3x3.3-km classic relay team at the 2018 U.S. Junior National Championship
- Won the 5-km freestyle and classic sprint in U16 at the 2017 U.S. Junior National Championship
- Competed in cross country at Liberty Bell High School, winning three-straight 2B/1B WIAA state championships (2016-18)
Sydney Palmer-Leger
Hometown: Park City, Utah
- Placed 20th in the 5-km skate and 25
th in the sprint classic at the 2019 World Junior Championships in Lahti, Finland, as well competing on the team that finished fourth in the 4x3.3-km relay
- Third in the junior 7.5-km skate and second in the junior classic sprint at the 2019 U.S. Cross Country Championships while finishing third among juniors (26
th overall) in the 10-km classic
- Won the junior freestyle sprint and finished first among U16's in the 10-km freestyle (27
th overall) at the 2018 U.S. Cross Country Championships
- Won the 5-km classic and third in the freestyle sprint in U16 at the 2018 U.S. Junior National Championship
- Won 5-km skate and sprint freestyle U16 titles at the 2016 U.S. Junior National Championship
- Won junior cross country races at the 2018, 2016 and 2014 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Nationals, finishing second in 2017
- Finished sixth in 1A at the 2019 IHSAA cross country championships for the Community School
