RED RIVER, N.M. – Ola Jordheim finished on the podium in the men's classic race and nine skiers earned top 10 finishes as the Utah ski team stands second overall at the New Mexico Invitational after the first day of races.
Jordheim led three skiers in the top 10 in the men's classic with
Bjørn Riksaasen, skiing for the first time this season after struggling with illness, finishing fifth.
Logan Diekmann placed eighth for his fourth top 10 finish of the year.
Jacob Engström finished 25
th for the Utes.
Maximilian Bie is sick and did not start.
In the women's classic race,
Julia Richter also returned after recovering from illness to place fourth, her best collegiate finish.
Leah Lange continued her consistency with an eighth-place run.
Mariah Bredal and
Guro Jordheim did not race due to illness.
Mark Engel returned to the hill after missing several races with injury to finish fourth in the slalom. He has finished in the top four in all three races he has competed this year.

In the women's slalom,
Eirin Engeset placed in the top 10 for the sixth time this year with a sixth-place finish.
Katie Vesterstein earned a collegiate best ninth-place finish. Denver graduate transfer Kristine Aasberg made her first appearance of the year, finishing 13th.
Katie Parker was 27
th.
In the team standings, Utah stands second behind Colorado, 21.5 points back (302 to 208.5). Montana State is third (274) with New Mexico fourth (268) and Denver fifth (261).
Action concludes on Saturday with the alpine giant slalom races and Nordic freestyle races.
